Rwanda to Decentralize National Grain Strategic Reserve

The Ministry of Agriculture has embarked on a move to decentralise the national grain strategic reserve down to the sector level.   The move is expected to enhance food security readiness in case of famine.   Emmanuel Kayiranga, the chairperson of post-harvest handling and storage taskforce at the ministry, said the initiative will not only ensure Rwandans are food secure but also will promote structured grain.... Sugar Production set to Increase in Tanzania

AGOA: South Africa Concludes Negotiations on Meat Issue

Kenya Food Security Project to Get Additional Funding from Israel

The Israeli firm contracted by Kenya to undertake trials for the Galana-Kulalu food security project will have get funding in the next few weeks.   Green Arava had been facing cash flow problems that had delayed the project which was due to be completed in March this year.   The government is pushing the firm to deliver the 10,000 acre model farm by July ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit and Cabinet Secretary.... RVR, Egyptian traders ink chemical, fertilizer cargo deal

Rift Valley Railways is set to become the main inland transporter of Egyptian fertiliser and chemicals from the Mombasa port after signing a memorandum of agreement with the Egyptian export council for chemicals and fertilisers.   The MoU was signed at the weekend during the Africa 2016 conference in Egypt between the export council and Egyptian private equity fund Qalaa Holdings.   Qalaa holdings owns 85 per cent of the Rift.... East Africa begins constructing grain silos countrywide

 Uganda has began constructing grain silos countrywide to help in the maintaining of good grain standards, the Grain Council of Uganda has announced. The project is supported by Trade Mark East Africa.   The Executive Director of the grain council of Uganda, Wilfred Tembo confirmed the news and said that the silos will be able to cater for approximately 200,000 kg of grain and is intended to serve close to 10, 000 farmers.... South Africa sends first batch of lychee to USA

South Africa has exported its first batch of lychee to the USA this month, said the country’s department of agriculture, forestry and fisheries   The shipment arrived in Atlanta, was irradiated and then transhipped to the relevant agents, said officials. C-MRF launched by COMESA to improve grain trade

Tata subsidiary to increase exports of pulses from Tanzania

 Tata Africa Holdings (Tanzania) Ltd has plans to increase exports of pulses to India   The company, a subsidiary of Tata International, began exporting pulses from Tanzania around a year and half ago.
